Learn to Protect the PUB

WITHDRAW BILL 36 - SEND A LETTER NOW!

This event will help make sure you have the necessary confidence to speak to committee about your commitment to protecting and promoting Manitoba's decision making methods.

Speaking to committee is one of the best ways to stop Bill 36 and Protect the PUB.

Bill 36 is the Manitoba Hydro Amendment and Public Utilities Board Amendment Act, and it will be brought to the provincial legislature this fall. We are concerned about Bill 36 because it proposes drastic changes to how Manitoba sets electricity prices, and would reduce the impartial oversight of the PUB in setting utilities rates. This would permit government to determine rates without needing to justify changes to the Legislative Assembly and move these decisions behind closed-doors.

WHAT IS COMMITTEE?

Committees examine matters referred to them by the House, and must report their findings back to the House.

After receiving First and Second Reading, a Bill is referred to a Standing or Special Committee, or to a Committee of the Whole House for consideration. It is during this third stage, the Committee Stage, that the content of a Bill is reviewed in detail.

Citizens interested in making a public presentation relating to a particular Bill referred to a Standing Committee may register on a "presenters list" by contacting the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly.

You can register to speak at committee now by calling the Office of the Clerk (204) 945-3636. This presentation will help make sure you have the confidence needed.
